Methane hydrate is a pink colored matter in crystalline form.  It is called the ice that burns.  Light it and it will burn.

Huge methane hydrate deposits exists on the ocean floors primarily around continental shelf drop offs.  They are larger by far than the known oil and gas reserves.  Some countries have or are considering mining these deposits.  But it is extremely dangerous because mining activity may destabilize the continental shelves and release large quantities of bubbles of methane gas.

More importantly, as the earth's temperature increases these deposits can potentially release large quantities of methane gas into the atmosphere.  The greatest consequence is the snowball effect this stuff may have on global warming.  Because once methane gas is released into the atmosphere, it will contribute to the greenhouse effect.

Mankind causes global warming through fossil fuel consumption.  This warming can then trigger methane to be released from the ocean floors.  This released methane will then further compound and accelerate the greenhouse effect.  The vicious cycle involving methane on the greenhouse effect was not previously anticipated in global warming models.

An initial model for global warming estimates a two to three degree rise in temperature over the next hundred years.  Each degree in temperature rise will cause an estimated 1 foot rise in sea level.  But when methane hydrate is put into the crank the results can be much more cataclysmic.  With methane it is estimated in a ten year period the temperature of the earth can potentially rise 12 degrees.

In the Bermuda Triangle, through which the continental shelf runs, strange things have happened.  Some say ships have gone into a zone where methane gas was upwelling and sunk them.  Because the sea could not support vessel due to it's high gas content.  Methane gas plumes are also attributed to at least one plane disappearing, because it exploded when it entered the plume.

The ten meter high tsunami which recently devastated the north shore of Papua New Guinea is also attributed to a methane hydrate upwelling.

Jesus said in the last days things happening in the seas that will trouble men (make them worry). "And there will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth distress (trouble and anguish) of nations in bewilderment and perplexity (that is without resources, left wanting, embarrassed, in doubt, not knowing which way to turn) at (the echo) the roaring of the tossing of the sea; Men swooning away or expiring with fear and dread and apprehension and expectation of the things that are coming on the world; for the [very] powers of heavens will be shaken and caused to totter."  Luke 21:25-26 Amplified Bible.  This appears to be just another confirmation that Jesus is coming soon.

Encouragement for brethren: "God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah."  Psalm 46:1-3
